“Australians should be free to make choices for themselves and their families that are socially, environmentally and economically responsible,” says Paul Roberton, Australian Democrats candidate for Wills.
Paul, who is Melbourne born and raised, describes his own extended family as “sprawling”. “My parents are immigrants. My father is from New Zealand, my mother from South Africa and I have one brother.”
After achieving a B.A. (History and Linguistics), B.Teach (ESL & Humanities) an M.A. (Communication & Professional Writing) and a Cert IV in Health Science (Emergency Care), Paul taught for 8 years. Currently working as a contractor, he also has experience as a labourer and in the retail/services sector.
He has served with Scouts Victoria, the SES, the Alexandra District Ambulance Service and Williamstown Lifesaving Club. And as well as completing the Oxfam Trailwalker and Kokoda Track, he has finished more than 10 open water swimming races.
In recognition of his contribution to Scouting he was awarded long service commendations and Scouts Australia’s National Rover Service Award for his outstanding individual service to Rovers (18 – 26 y.o. Scouts)
Paul describes himself as “open-minded, willing to learn, a highly competent communicator and an enthusiastic team player,” qualities which he believes are important in anyone aspiring to hold public office.
But he believes that what is lacking most of all in politics today is compassion and empathy. “That’s one of the main reasons I’m an Australian Democrat and so very keen to serve the community as the MP for my home electorate of Wills.” Visit Paul Roberton’s website.
