Australian Election 2010

Will you get better government by wasting your vote on more of the same?

If you feel let down, now is the time to speak up.

Labor has watered-down their promises and wasted your money. They and the Liberal-National coalition have continued the Howard era discrimination against indigenous Australians and reverted to fear mongering over ethnic minorities and asylum seekers. The Greens have blocked the beginnings of a climate change strategy in favour of nothing at all.

If you’re sick and tired of knee-jerk obstruction and political posturing – of a mindset that repeatedly puts power above principle and self interest before better legislation – of political theatrics that not only wastes millions of your tax dollars but countless opportunities to tackle the real issues, please make your vote speak loud and clear.

Don’t believe for a moment that because one of the big parties always wins Government a vote for the Democrats won’t count. It will.

In the Senate, particularly, the Democrats can play a significant role in how Australia is governed. Small parties and independents have real power that, if properly used, can keep the other parties more honest and enhance our democracy by giving voice to a diverse range of views. The only way not to waste your vote is to vote for the candidate you would really like to see in Canberra, working hard to implement the policies you believe in. But even if your candidate is not elected, your vote still keeps working as your preferences go to your next choice and your next and so on.

Learn about the secret power of preferences here.
